Subject: Should Fort Hood Personnel Be Allowed To Carry Personal Arms?
CJH    4/6/2014 4:57:50 PM
Watching a local political issues show recently, I heard a liberal politician remark that the ubiquity of guns among us (privately owned firearms anyway) wasn't fitting for a civilized society.

I couldn't help emailing my two cents about that so I rejoined that a civilized society doesn't murder 55 million of its babies in 40 years. The underlying thought was that with life being held to be cheaper than ever, the need for self protection is more necessary than ever.

We have seen how towns with extreme gun prohibitions, school campuses and military installations have seen a disproportionate frequency of mass shootings. The commonality is application of extreme gun prohibitions and the irony is that these prohibitions attract mass shootings.

Having school staff who are armed is now a subject of serious debate. So what about encouraging the carrying of personal arms on military bases such as Fort Hood perhaps by people who already have concealed carry permits?
