Subject: And the guard starts coming down hard - America has officially forgotten.
Elbandeedo    5/6/2003 7:07:38 AM
Those who have some inkling of what the war on terror truly entails have watched, shaking their heads, clucking their tongues as the liberals got over the first shock of the attack on America and began the race to see who could use political correctness as a ploy to cause America to forget first. Billary (don't you love her?) was rolling her eyes and making snide comments DURING the presidents speech to America on September 12th. America has moved on, "Survivor - 'where ever'" is far more exciting and more pertinent to the average American than say, protecting their families and loved ones. And now the washington post reports that Americas "spy agencies" see the threat as drastically diminished. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A17985-2003May5.html Remember the cold war? It was "safer" then - with only a few countries having nukes, the two superpowers scaring the pants off of everyone else - except the french who never put theirs back on after WWI. Now it's India, Pakistan, Israel, the U.S., North Korea (?) and... who else? Do terrorists have some of those missing nukes from Russia?? And now we are "safe"?? right. I feel so much better. What ever will I do with my 600 rolls of duct tape, 500 yards of sheet plastic? I know many posters on this board have thougts along the same lines as myself - that the war on terror will take YEARS to have any real effect, and further - it's a war that cannot truly be won. We can probably defeat any given opponent, such as al qrudda and osama-mama bin lid and his "merry band" of sociopathich islamofascists - then who is next? And in the mean time, homegrown loonies will always be a threat - the 'one off'. the lone gunman/bomber/etc. Basically this is the war that will never end. As long as their are those who refuse to go along with the majority rule, there will be those who will become violently opposed to the majority rule. (example - Earth Liberation Front, Animal Liberation Front, and SHAC - "I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!") I trust the truthfulness and accuracy of the washington post about as far as I can throw my house. however. Have we forgotten? has the liberal agenda stalled the war on terror? are their far too many frenchmen living in this country? ;o) E.

Look! I made a new word! ;o) I agree. we hear more from them and it becomes more shrill. May I draw a parallel? Regardless of your stance on abortion, look at what has happened with SOME of the pro-life crowd. Feeling that no one is listening in our increasingly liberalistic and permissive society, some have stopped the shrill screeching that no one apparently listened to, and they turned to violence. Another example, if you will: Animal rights activists, Ecology buffs. Now they are ELF and ALF. Terrorists. When people feel strongly about something and feel no one is listening, too often they turn to violence to get attention for their cause. Right. Now let’s go that step that the fanatics go – Suicide bombing/terrorism for peace? No? I see it coming. I cannot even begin to feel your loss friend – Fellow American. I can’t, and I’d be lying if I said I did. I know that my wife will never be the same. We knew people who were killed in the Pentagon; we had friends who had associates die. A friend of mine had his uniform (polyester dress uniform) melt to his body in places as he went back in multiple times to retrieve those who were injured and couldn’t get out on their own. He kept going in until after his last trip, on the way out (like something from Hollywood) the building collapsed behind him and the young navy corpsman who was aiding him. Another friend was knocked to his feet by the blast. He jumped up, ran to the window – and the fireball hit. He closed his eyes and thought, “This is gonna hurt!” – but the glass was the new blastproof (resistant?) stuff and it held, giving him time to get out as his office burst into flames. We had loss here too, but nothing like you New Yorkers. I have not forgotten ANYONEs loss, nor will I. I agree, we need to make sure Americans don’t forget, and steal a bit of newstime from the lefties. Tell the truth and make it heard – but in a calm, reasoned voice – not the shrill voice of the unreasoning fanatics, like those who attacked us. Thanks Apple. My prayers are with you and all New Yorkers. Keep your eyes open. With all that is going on internationally, I fear more is to come locally as well. E.

Excellent post Elbandeedo! And I might add that the recent Laci Peterson and son murder case in Caliberalifornia has caused me to seriously re-think my normally pro-choice leanings. Seems to me the libs could make a run towards getting Scott Peterson's murder charges reduced to "performing abortion without a license" if they wanted to be consistent. But liberals loathe consistency.

As I sat glued to the TV that day I was repeatedly awed by the courage of ordinary people. My cousin, a USMC officer was in the the building, attending a meeting. Everyone was knocked off their chairs. He had to be evacuated, only recently assigned to the Pentagon, he had no bearings. Two of the most inspiring things i saw that day were: two Marines emerging from the smoke, in step, carrying their "Colors". The other was the TV camera, focused on the burning building, looking over the heads of the multitude who had evacuated the building. When a loudspeaker requested volunteers to re-enter the building to search for survivors, the crowd ran forward as one.

I'm sorry I missed your reply, and I agree with you in principle. As a realist, I believe that in the not to distant future, another Democrat will be elected POTUS. Looking at the list of active Democrat politicians you offered, and in the absence of Sam Nunn and "Scoop" Jackson, I still think Graham is the best the Democrats can offer. You forgot to mention Hillary or Al.
