Subject: Red Alert?
ChrisWI    5/12/2003 3:50:03 PM
Three terrorist attacks all linked to OBL linked groups in one week, is this a sign of something to come? I think so, I mean 49 dead, 110 wnd in Cheychna, 42 dead in Philipines and now multipe deaths in Saudi truck bombing, I can recall 3 attacks a week in Israel, but never 3 a week in 3 different places. I think a attack on US soil may occur soon. Chris

Well, Iran was a threat even before the al Qaeda high command allegedly situated themselves there (There has also been talk of al Qaeda relocating their "headquarters" to war-torn Lebanon after the fall of Afghanistan's infratructure), and even moreso now. If al Qaeda established a firm base of operations in Iran, it would be much harder to route them. Iran is a much stronger nation militarily than Iraq was and has closer ties to regional powers (Russia, China). If you ask me, N. Korea poses a larger threat than either nation, as it has admitted to having operational nukes and intends to sell them. #2 should be Iran, as it has stated that it would use any nuclear device it obtains immediately on Israel. Iraq, IMO, posed an extremely minimal threat. If Ussamah truly is in Iran, the Ayat'allah may feel obliged to send him a welcoming present in the form of ready-to-use Iranian chemical weapons, which we know are in their possession.

Maybe I'm just whistling past the graveyard with this. Maybe I should be knocking on wood and the other shoe is going to hit the fan. Still, it seems to me that if a supposed al Qaeda offensive is beginning, the choice of targets signifies something: 1) Possibly a huge strategic blunder as the attacks have done little except galvanize moderate Islamic states against the terrorists. Targeting Muslims instead of Westerners, even targeting westernized Muslims, is misguided. It doesn't make sense. It will only reduce support for al Qaeda in the long run. The purpose of these attacks (Chechnya, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco) is unknown as there doesn't seem to be advantage to al Qaeda to lose so many of its members in these mass attacks for little gain. Now if 13 al Qaeda members started shooting up Times Square and then set off a bomb, that would have an impact. Is this simply an attempt to show they still have capability? 2) Possibly a sign of weakness: if al Qaeda no longer has the international reach, and can't get positioned to do the type of damage it was once capable of doing in the West, then this is a desperate attempt to show it still has the capacity to strike terror. The only problem is, it reveals a lack of range, and again, it's the wrong targets. It shows that al Qaeda is being beaten back. It shows desperation. The attacks may have shown that there is still a significant force out there, and they can act fairly concertedly, but the targeting shows weakness. I'm not suggesting any of us relax. I am simply hopeful that these bombings reveal that the war on terrorism can be won.

You guys need to relax! Do you really feel like we will be attacked again? Why do you think all these other places ARE being attacked. Becuase they are not capable of doing it to US again. al qaeda is EMPTY!!! They got NOTHING!!! They got us good once, but that will not happen again. Our gov. has put the collar on these guys. Now they have to crap in their own backyard. The US is the most open society in the world, yet foreign terrorism rarely occurs here. Dispite what people think, our security services are doing a fantastic job on the whole of putting the kaibosh on any plans. How long has it been since 911? We went to afgan. No attacks. We took iraq. No attacks. We continue to support isreal. No attacks. Dogs that bark, rarely bite. Trust in our goverment.

I personally thought that we had a long way to go with the war on terror. even though we have had some successes. I think that the attacks in muslim countries are a good sign that "the base" is in disarray. TO: al qaeda, keep blowing up muslims this only hurts your cause.

As I posted earlier - the fact that there were No attacks on either American or European soil is a sign that we Are winning the War on Terror. al-Qaeda attacks in muslem countires actually shows that the terror organisation(s) Are limited as to what they are capable of doing. And attacks in Muslems countries only galvanize neutral, non-committal muslem governments to gear up against al-Qaeda.

Every time somebody say: "Trust the government". I get nerveous, and when they add: "Everything is under control." I get scared stiff. The problem is Al Qaida have the initiative. You may chop off many heads of this snake - and should do it; but way to kill it: Take the money away from it!

cont. Those who defeat Al Qaida will not be soldiers - they are holding the fort and control damages; but bankers and bookkeepers - hell why do you think they attacked exactly those people in the first place?????

I think calling overseas attacks "a good sign" smacks of a "better them than us" mentality that keeps nations from working together against terrorism in the first place. A good sign would be if Al Qaeda provokes other nations to actively join with the USA in the fight against terrorism.

Its not under control Thomas? I am sorry but i must have missed the attack over the memorial day weekend. Oh wait... there was no attack over the mem. day weekend. Are they somehow killing us softly or something. Wheres the terror? wheres the mahem? wheres the rivers of blood. I feel safer now than ever before. Are you scared? Where i come from, you tend to ignore the people who talk alot of "trash". They usually are all talk and no action. Dont be scared of these guys. They are punks. I think SOME of the people on this site need to find the yellow brick road. Maybe the wizard can give you all some courage! A little heart maybe. Be strong people

American Kafir Your quote >>>A good sign would be if Al Qaeda provokes other nations to actively join with the USA in the fight against terrorism. <<<< That is exactly what happened because of the Saudi attack. The Saudi government had been fence sitting (at best) for a long time. Apparently (and hopefully) the Saudis are now forced to Act (though they still attempt to minimize US involvemnet inside Saudi Arabia).
