Here in the UK, it is the 5th of November, when we celebrate the capture of Guy Fawkes, who was involved ina catholic plot to blow up the houses of Parliament and King James I with 36 barrels of Gunpowder. Luckily he was caught, on this day 1605, and then Hung Drawn and quatered, (after being tortured to give the names of the other conspirators. An event we celebrate to this day with fireworks, and bonfires, with an effigy of Guy Fawkes (now known as a 'the Guy'). Celebrations were marked that year, withgiant bonfires, and have continued since (though effigies of the pope, which were once common are no longer made), probably one of the oldest, and certainly most famous celebrations of the war against terror! Each town and village celebrates this, with many hundreds of people going to the events in each village and town. Apparently it is also celebrated in part of Canada (Newfoundland), Australia and New Zealand (any canadians know of this?). I am sure though, that any attempt to copy this in the USA, with an effigy of a man in traditaional Arab Garb, would not be considered politically correct, lol. "Remember, remember the 5th of November, Gunpowder, treason, and plot. We see no reason why Gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot!"
