I first noticed Aaron over at Internet Haganah a while ago. I should have posted about him earlier, he does some good work. http://www.haganah.us I think that is the URL...

I understand that US spooks monitor these sites for useful intelligence. Messing with them may be ill advised.

The place to report Jihadist websites would be: http://www.cia.gov/

Hareron is correct, the government has already asked would-be hackers not to mess with those sites, you never know when they're monitoring them for intel or when you might spoil somebody's honey trap.

Actually, the CIA and FBI don't really like what Aaron is doing. By shutting those sites down he is making their jobs harder, they have to look around more to find the replacement sights in order to gather intel. That is why the authorities turned a blind eye to the DOS attacks against IH, among other reasons.

I see it the other way. By getting terrorist sites and para-sites shut down, IH has forced the cyber-jihadists into multiplying (with attendant traceroute "paper trails" showing where the "chatter" is coming from and the hidden website "para-sites" they link to) and spending money buying domain names - money that is both traceable and stoppable as terror financiers are identified and shut down. Aaron @ IH is doing legally what the FBI, despite the much-vaunted Patriot Act, can not do, and should be viewed as an informant / expert witness. Who knows how many terrorist plots have been stopped by Aaron's work to disrupt their communications? The FBI might not be happy about IH's cyber-vigilantism, but I rest assured (from the Arab-originated DOS attacks on IH) that the terrorists definitely don't like it.
