Subject: Who in Europe is next Italy France UK Poland?
Siddar    3/15/2004 1:52:47 AM
Italy has tendency for weak goverments so a attack could produce the response terrorists want. Poland seems to be easy target but Poles would likely unite against the terrorist Poles are tired of being pushed around by people and I see them standing up not backing down if there attacked. UK Like Poland not ones to back down in face of a threat. France wildcard france thinks it is safe from attack because of its opposing US on Iraq but many factors could lead to it being attacked. 1 Suport for war in Afghanistan that destroyed the only goverment that Jihadists beleaved was worth suporting. 2 Has asked that EU take over running Nato mission in Afghanistan thus putting EU in charge of one of the main fronts in WoT. 3 Headscarf ban this action has put France at the head of the Culture clash between western and muslim world. 4 Chiracs triumphant turn of Mid East before GW2 the fact that a secular head of a western power could be seen as a hero in muslim world is agianst every thing that the AQ type beleave in. 5 large base of muslims in France to hide in this would give them a base for sustained attacks not just one large attacks that they are limited to in other countrys. In my view the Italy is logical target followed by France. The only reason france is second is because the terrorist draw certian benifits from europes view that there not targets. My guess is if violence in Iraq burns out and Osama is captured that terrorist will become desprate will attack any where they can.

My God, where did you ever saw that Europe refused to "remove terrorist support network"? You heard this one on Fox News? Are you suggesting that Europe is lacking a nice set of laws such as the (so-called) Patriot Act which, I understand, if sharply criticized even in the USA? What do you think we should do in Europe? Allow our goverments to imprison freely without charges, under the slightliest suspicion our citizens? What about stadium gathering the suspects like in the good old days of Chile 73? And, by the way, since we Europeans went a step farther 60-70 years ago, why not dig here and there in order to find better ideas? Please take some time to read serious information on the war on terror in Europe. Another jewel from Siddar: "The largest factor is that US would respond to a attack you would see allot of bombs falling on syria are iran now if those bombs had gone of on US trains". Wow! For sure the lots of bombs falling of Iraq and Afganistan are deterring terrorists from carrying out anything on US and western targets world wide! War on Terror is only starting Siddar! And what relationship did you find between Madrid train bombings and Iran/Syria? I'd be interested to know more about this? Can you help? For sure Spanish Govt would be sitting there and merely crying if Syrian Govt was to blame for the bombings! I wish a foreign government is between Madrid bombs: it'd be so easy and so sweet to solve!!!

My God, where did you ever saw that Europe refused to "remove terrorist support network"? You heard this one on Fox News? Maybe you should do some looking on the subject because it been reported by many many new sources that europe is looking the other way as terrorists use it for recruiting financeing political and arms purchases. This isnt just the view of a political extreme its the view of every police and intelgence agency inside and out side of europe. Are you suggesting that Europe is lacking a nice set of laws such as the (so-called) Patriot Act which, I understand, if sharply criticized even in the USA? What do you think we should do in Europe? Yes you need a patriot act in europe as a american im not going to forget that the people that did 9/11 recruited them in germany. You will also find almost no one in america who thinks the patriot act turned america into a police state. As for what to do I have said what should be done arrest the people involved deport those who come to europe to advocate the destruction of western value pass new laws to stop them from using europe to suport violence in other parts of the world and freeze imagration tell terror war is done. You seem to think a citzen and a non citzen have the same right to extremist view I dont. A country should give more deference to nutcases born in its country then those from other. This is done to protect the right of people but allowing people to imagrate into your country that oppose the very basic values of your culture and advocate violence as a means to acheave your destruction should place on the first plane back to where they came from. Another jewel from Siddar: "The largest factor is that US would respond to a attack you would see allot of bombs falling on syria are iran now if those bombs had gone of on US trains". Wow! I wish a foreign government is between Madrid bombs: it'd be so easy and so sweet to solve!! Iran and Syria are involved in the violence going on in Iraq thats is really all the reason we need to go after them. Iran is also sheltering some AQ and is letting them move across iran to Iraq from pakistan. Many of the sucide bombers are being shipped in from Syria along with weapons.

Wish I knew... Today I would certainly pursue the operations which have started, because we have no other choice and that vacuum would create even more chaos. 1. In Iraq I would cross my fingers for things to get better and I would calmly leave as soon as things have stabilized. 2. In Afganistan I would certainly pursue an energetic fight against Taliban hoping to catch OBL. At least that keeps them busy... 3. I would weigh the more I can to find an acceptable solution to the Palestinian conflict and thus stop providing the islamic endless justification for martyrdom. 4. I would simply threaten of transforming into a parking lot any country supporting openly terrorism (I think this objctive has already been reached). 5. I would hunt down all over the world by the means of coordinated police actions terrorist groups (after all it took only a few days to Spanish intelligence to identify the bombers in Madrid). 6. I would calmly sit down and try to understand why those people hate us so hard and, if ever we did something wrong, try to find solutions (this is the utopic part of me). 7. I would wipe out of power W and his clique, Chirac, Zavatero and find less selfish politicians (this part being the most difficult to achieve). Nothing really original Siddar. Something between Clinton's inaction and Bush's silly dreams...

In short, most European country have been cracking down on terror for decades before the USA. UK has suffered from IRA since late sixties, Spain from ETA for decades, France from Algerian/Islamic terrorism since the fifties and so on, while USA remained idle until 9/11. Manuy of the odd 20 9/11 terrorists took their flight simulator lessons in the USA as far as I know, and not in Germany! Your good Saudi Wahabit friends have openly waged war on you without the smallest reaction from US Govt, etc. Now Europe's response may not yet be strong enough (although if you take the train in Paris you'll be surprised by the sheer numbers of military and gendarmes everywhere.) But Europe will muscle up its police cooperation in the forthcoming weeks. But no need for Patriot Act, no need for Exception Laws. No need for citizens to be legally abducted without having access to defense no need to breach Geneva's convention, etc. Sorry Siddar, but Patriot Act as well as Guantanamo aren't my cup of tea and this feeling is widely shared all over the continent and also in N America... Last point: Iran and Syria (especially Iran) are probably giving some kind of logistical support to fighter in Iraq and Iran is probably an creative mess-maker over there. But I'd be really surprised they do more than this!

<<3. I would weigh the more I can to find an acceptable solution to the Palestinian conflict and thus stop providing the islamic endless justification for martyrdom.>> AQ and those type wil will find more justification. I suspect that Hammas will continue attacks even after... They want the state of Israel destroyed. If Hammas, Hizbollah, brigade would stop killing innocent civillians the Palestinian's would already have, at the very least, have a better standard of living and, probably, their own state. With that being said, I think that most(but not all) people want to see a solution here. <<6. I would calmly sit down and try to understand why those people hate us so hard and, if ever we did something wrong, try to find solutions (this is the utopic part of me). >> Good luck here. AQ has already informed us of its demands: give ALL muslim lands back(lands not just in the middle east), become muslim, adopt muslim law, etc.

Wildcat, as far as I know Al Qaida does rule the Muslim world. You are peppering all of your posts with AQ mentions. Palestine? AQ. Pakistan? AQ. Algeria, Lebanon, Egypt? AQ as well? Like it or not, the Palestinian conflict is not driven by Al Qaida. It has started sixty years ago and is now a bloody stalemate with fuels Arab resentment at large and AQ madness in particular. For sure it is very convenient to throw everything Arab in a bin, to cover it with an Al Qaida lid and to burn it. But if we don't try to tackle the subject now, in 20 years time we'll still be exchanging posts about the human bombs in Israel and on the Arabs which may more than ever look like coming from planet Mars to us...

Clearly, the Palestanian conflict is not driven by AQ. However, it is impossible to believe that they are not using it as 1 of their justifications for global jihad. If this justification is removed they will use others it's as simple as that. It is naive in the extreme to think that by ending the Palistian conflict that global jihadist recruits will "magically" dry up. A political settlement between Israel and PLA is possible and I'm sure it's desired by most. In particular between the 2 peoples directly involved. A political settlement between global jihadist and YES AQ is a part of that is not. Those types will not stop. If you believe that you can negotiate with them you are either naive or well.... But by all means try. Go ahead and attemtp to negotiate, bury your head in the sand, surrender for all I care.

Wildcat, the situation is somewhat more complex than your simplistic views of the Arab/Muslim world! We aren't waging a war against a well defined country like in WW2 agaisnt Germany or Japan. Instead the Arab world covers dozens of countries and hundreds of millions of citizens having distinct economical, geographical, cultural features and interests! What are the I'm not putting my head in the sand, neither attempting to negociate nor surrender! Negociate with whom, or surrender to whom, by the way? This is a complex war and a complex world, Wildcat. Try to be a little bit more open to it and stop slamming your desk martially as soon as a poster disagree with you (by the way, what did you mean when you wrote: "If you believe that you can negotiate with them you are either naive or well..." What means: "well"?)
