on the afgan-pakistan border the fighting seems to have come to an end,and once again it seems almost all of al-queda have escaped. I know most of the americans on here are conservatives including myself, but you have to start to question this administration on how they are conduting operations tora bora and know this fiasco is pakistan harboring terrorist yes, that means we should have went in there and did the job ourselves.I can tell you one thing if this continues we will begin to start losing this war,and the future does not look good.IT'S time we have some balls and take care of these targets ourselves.

Al-Qaeda intelligence chief killed in tribal operation: Pak spokesman IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency Islamabad, March 29, IRNA -- A key member of al-Qaeda was killed during the 12-day operation in tribal region, bordering Afghanistan, a military spokesman said Monday. Abdullah, the al-Qaeda intelligence chief, is among those killed in the operation, Major General Shaukat Sultan, the military spokesman told a news conference in Islamabad. He said a total of 63 militants and their local supporters have been killed since the operation was launched on March 16. The areas cordoned during the last 12-day has been cleared `and the cordon has been removed`, General Sultan said. According to the spokesman some 167 people who were arrested during the operation `are under interrogation`. He however avoided giving the number of foreign militants and their rank in al-Qaeda or other such network saying, `at this juncture sharing preliminary investigation might harm the probe process`. Arguing earlier figure of 400 to 500 militants giving opposition to the army in the identified seven targets at Kaloosha, Azam Warsak and Shin Warsak, the general said, "Some militants in small groups slipped and spread in the vicinity but we are keeping eyes on them as Pakistan military already took measures to tackle them in the possible areas where they are. "We will arrest them after credible intelligence tip and they could not hide themselves from the troops," he said. Also in the press conference, Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan rejected that Pakistan has been moving against the militants on the behest of any other country. "We are not taking action on the tip of someone but war against terrorism is in the interest of Pakistan and its people." He said Pakistan will go after the militants until `they are completely flushed out`. TK/TSH/AH/210 End http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/news/2004/03/mil-040329-irna03.htm

Pak forces achieve "major objectives" in tribal area operation Islamabad, March 29, IRNA -- Some 70,000 troops have been reportedly deployed along the border on the Pakistani side, while on the other side Afghan and US forces are in operation against the suspected elements. The government said that several terrorists had been killed and dozens others arrested during the operation, which had the support of assault helicopters. Rejecting the opposition`s criticism, the government said that had the operation not been launched, outside forces [READ UNCLE SAM] would have taken the initiative to meddle in Pakistan`s internal affairs in order to take on the terrorists on their own. On Watch: So you see dear Pakkis, General M was just being a Pak Statesman, not the TOOL of the Great Satan that some of the General's critics would have you believe. After the Tribal Lands onward to the Madrassahs... MORE HERE-- http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/news/2004/03/mil-040329-irna02.htm

>>ITS nice to see such great faith in the pakistanis--tank<< You misunderstand me! I wouldn't trust a Pakistani any farther than I could throw a Big Pushtoon! What I do have "Great Faith" in, is the ability of the Bush Admin/US Milfors to TWIST ARMS in Islamabad! Further, It doesn't take too many unsuccessful assassination attempts by al Quaeda agents to convince the Pak Army leadership that they'd better flush-out the tribal land cesspools - while they have Uncle Sam as a willing, but silent, partner. As for the "northern alliance" they were extremely useful coalition partners, and effective troops against the Taliban and al Queada formations in the early stages of "Operation Enduring Freedom". Some elements of that initial coalition remain helpful to the WOT, others are less so. In the end, it remains for the Afghani's themselves to accomplish the hard business of compromise and nation building, we are but the arms that aid them in that effort.

On Watch    ...top level or bottom level their all on the HIT parade!   3/30/2004 8:24:31 AM
>>...trust - but verify: No easy task in that corner of the world SW! For all we know "Abdullah" may be in an orange jumpsuit in flight to Gitmo? Don't we wish! Whoever they killed & captured, they're out of the game for now or forever! What is significant is the fact that the Paks conducted such a massive operation [payoff for Dr. Khan?]. On balance, it was a success for US since it flushed many of the terrorist quarry out of their fortified positions. And the Pak tribes were given strong notice that their holdings may be turned to rubble if they are found to harbor alQueada (foreign) operatives. Further, as the routed bands of terrorists move about the countryside. they'll be picked-up by our intelligence assets, Pak informers or Military and dealt with unit by unit. The Pak MilFors operated as the "Beaters" in an old fashioned Tiger Hunt! Now, the SpecOps guys get to have some fun!
