Subject: 9 convicted in a honour-killing of an 18 year old girl.

Calling Switebull, Calling Switebull!!! A bit of news from my neck of the woods, that might be of general interest: Today 9 persons of a family/freinds bunch was convicted for the murder of an 18 year old girl and the wounding of her similarly young houseband last year. Not only the butcher - her brother - but her father (for ordering the hit), mother aunt plus miscelleneous relation for the hunt to assasinate the pakistani-danish, pretty woman, that followed her heart, and not the will of her family, in her marriage. The jury deliberated about 24 hours. Penalties will be dealt out tomorrow. It is the first time in Northern Europe that not only the murderer (generally a male member of the family under 18, due to fact they get off lighter); but the whole conspiracy is convicted. On a personal note: I can say with conviction they had the best defence, as one of the defending attourneys is my own lawyer. I think, as we could all be called for jury duty, that it is essential that this ruling be known as widely as possible. I supply the link from the world famous newspaper MORGENAVISEN JYLLANDS-POSTEN: http://www.jp.dk/english_news/artikel:aid=3812866/ And now for the obligatory snide remark against Sweden: Yesterday in a similar case only the brother (a juvenile) was convicted.

It seems like the only one that is not appealing - so far - is the one NOT facing expulsion.

See, and if you had shot them resisting arrest, all this trouble could have been avoided.

See that is exactly what we don't want!!! We want them dragged throught the courtsystem, exposed. We want them in prison and we want the exquiste pleasure of escorting them with police officers (preferrably one of the officers a woman) to gate 13 in Kastrup Airport where big bellied, beardstubbled Polis from Istanbul will take over. We want their defence attourneys parade the lame excuses, cite the fact that they are spineless worms as a mitigating curcumstance. For instance it is claimed that it is inhumane to expell a mother of four minor - after she has served 14 years in jail. Well she should have thought better of her family obligations in time. They are not honourable or brave: They are cowardly, disgusting failures in every sense of the word. Brutality the understand; contempt is better.

While I take your point, is giving them what they understand aybe more conducive to getting actual results, at least in the short term? Perhaps you ask too much of them ;> Then again, the most effective thing from that point of view might be to have a rump Islamic court, whch would spout some doggerel about how they violated this or that hadith, then take 'em out and stone 'em, etc. We may not like brutality, but man, does it have a track record!

The ones I want to influence are not the criminals in this case - they are presumably beyond redemption - killing your own children sort of points to that. The ones we have to reach are those in this enviroment, that want a life for themselves and their children. The society they fled from is bad, that's why their rules do not apply here and don't try to impose those rules on anybody. Brutality might work in Iraq, as they have to live in that gutter tomorrow as well - I hope not; but the possibility is unfortunaly big - but around here: Behave or get out.

"The husband IS muslim, and he was wounded in the assasination." Being Muslim does not negate the girls parents ability to call him an infidel... There is more than one sect of Islam, and each sect thinks it is right.

He is an afghan i think. The trick is that there is no religious card versus the Danish society to play! Not that it hasn't been attempted.

The procedure for these families seem to be that they promise their connections in Pakistan - or what ever, that their child can be married to their son/daughter and be brought to Denmark (they have difficulty in that now; but that is another story) presumably in return for some financial compensation in Pakistan - or whatever. If the kid disagree, this deal falls through, and there is payback and acrimony. And them some people find trafficing in prostitutes reprehensible?????? Some people accept (more or less) parents selling their children and are disgusted by pornstar mobility!!!!

reminds of a custom similarly practiced by the sicilians and maltese where they are overly protective of their women folk!  these people take female honour very damn seriously!

What I always found odd is the predilection for killing rape victims. If they killed the perpetrator I would simply call it frontier justice-easily understood, though hardly a good base for society.
I read about that sort of thing in James Bowman's "A History of Honor". There was one incident where a girl was gang-raped as a punishment for being raped-despite the fact that the local Imam had agreed she was innocent according to the Koran and asked that she be spared. A little different from the "open doors for ladies, keep a stif upper lip, never show emotion,  never panic in battle,  kind to civilians and respect your foe so long as he is worthy of respect" code of honor most of us are fammiliar with.
