Subject: France over plays its hand
Y. pestis    2/18/2003 12:39:37 AM
Looks like France is over playing its hand just as it did in Nato. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=524&u=/ap/20030217/ap_wo_en_po/eu_gen_eu_chirac_eastern_europe_1&printer=1 Threatening Eastern European countries for disagreeing with France and Germany will win no points in those countries or in the EU. It may just backfire. Lets hope so.

What they're doing is giving all the Europeans who don't want or fear Franco-German control a good reason to look towards America as a guarentor of their liberty. At some point, much more of this clumsy, overt threatening will split the EU and either fragment Europe, or lead to the creation of a counter-bloc which will probably align with America.

Indeed. Just as Kim over in North Korea has been the biggest seller of an American Ballistic Missile Defense Shield, the French and Germans have sold the rest of Europe of the neccessity of strong US and UK involvement in Europe's affairs. You would almost think that they are on our side.

I hate the french just as much as the next american, but our leaders could be more diplomatic in getting support. At least make these loosers feel like they're part of the process while we remain in control. It would have gotten us into Iraq with unilateral support months ago.

AK, I think that we are doing everything we can. Its just that France doesn't want us in Iraq, period. Neither does Russia. China is an open case, we could easily convince them if we found something to trade.
