Despite two failed attempts to get the US to join the program, Israel is moving ahead with the concept of a long-ranged unmanned aerial vehicle that could detect mobile missile launchers and destroy them with a missile carried for that purpose. The Israelis originally wanted the drone to fire a missile at the ballistic missile itself, but this proved to be too complex to achieve. Attacking the launcher, however, might well destroy the missile and even if not it would stop any further launches by that vehicle.--Stephen V Cole
