The Engagements of the Gettysburg Campaign, 1 June - 26 July, 1863

Various official sources list as many as 106 battles, engagements, actions, and skirmishes occurring in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania related to the Gettysburg Campaign. There were probably many more. Most of these were small affairs, often involving no more than a cavalry patrol on either side, and few had any major impact on the course of events. This table includes only actions in which a thousand or more men were involved on at least one side. It should be kept in mind that many of these affairs have more than one name, and some could be considered different aspects of a single larger incident, while others could be broken down into two or more separate ones. The name used is that most commonly applied, or that of a nearby locale in the case of unnamed combats. Figures for numbers engaged are in thousands. Casualties are given in parentheses in absolute numbers, and have had to be estimated in cases for which there is no reliable data available. An asterisk (*) is used to indicate the victor, in such cases where a clear winner can be discerned.
