Marine Commandant General James Jones has announced that his branch wants its own new-construction AC-130 gunships. These are C-130 cargo planes loaded with night vision sensors and a number of mini-guns (and a 105mm howitzer) firing out the side. Devastating to enemy ground forces, the AC-130s are operated only by Air Force special operations units.--Stephen V Cole
