Switzerland has decided to buy two European Aerospace C295M turboprop transports to solve its requirement for airlift to support peacekeeping deployments. The C295M is based on the proven C235, and can carry 6,000kg for 2,200km at a speed of 450km/hr. The C295M was selected over the rival US-Italian C27J, which had superior performance but cost more.--Stephen V Cole
