In order to increase the passenger capacity of the C-17, the U.S. Air Force has developed a palletized seating systems. Each pallet can hold 10-15 seats, each of which is more comfortable than the seats the C-17 comes equipped (along the side of the cabin.) The air force is buying 34 seat pallets, with ten already delivered. A C-17 can hold nine of these pallets to carry a maximum of 188 passengers. The more comfortable seats are appreciated on some of the 10-12 hour flights C-17s often take.
