The US Navy has approved production of the LPD-17 USS San Antonio, the first of twelve ships of a new class of amphibious warfare vessels. Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding will construct eight of the ships; the other four will be built by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works.--Stephen V Cole
