The British Royal Navy is building two 16,000 ton amphibious ships using a thruster system to replace the traditional rudder. Many civilian ships have been using this system for over a decade. Thrusters provide much more agility, which is an asset to amphibious ships that must operate inshore and require precision navigation as they land their troops. Each ship will carry 350 marines and 70 vehicles.
