The U.S. Army is converting six brigades (two at Ft Lewis, one at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, one at Ft Polk, LA, one in Hawaii, 56th Brigade, and a National Guard brigade in Philadelphia, PA). Two more may also be converted. The III Corps is being organized a the "Counter Attack Corps" in case there is a high intensity conflict that needs a lot of tanks and artillery. But all this is a temporary measure, while the army works on it's futuristic new weapons and systems. Many in the army do believe that the current fifty ton M-1 tank will be the last super heavy combat vehicle the army will ever use. Future weapons will rely more on computers, sensors and technology in general to defeat armored vehicles.
