Armor: October 7, 2001

The Swiss company MOWAG has unveiled its new Piranha-IV light armored vehicle. This is an 8x8 version of the 6x6 LAV used by many nations (including the US Marines). The baseline vehicle is 15 tons and is configured as an armored personnel carrier. It has a payload of 10 tons, which could include a combination of troops, weapons, and extra armor. At the highest level of armor protection, it is protected from 25mm sabot ammunition over the 60-degree frontal arc.--Stephen V Cole
