After six months of secret trials in the Rajasthan desert, India announced the existence of the 47-ton Tank Ex. Integrating the hull and drive train of the Russian T-72 and the 120mm main gunned turret of the indigenous 'Arjun' main battle tank. 'Tank Ex" is believed to combine the advantages of low weight, small size and high speed. The Arjun (inspired by the German Leopard 2) has a better main gun than the T-72, but is much heavier and has a higher profile. India manufactures the T-72, which has proven to be a reliable and nimble platform. 'Tank Ex' maximizes the positive attributes of both tanks and will fill a roll between the two. - Adam Geibel
