Archives

The United States already has quite a bit of armor in the Persian Gulf. Stored in Kuwait are 348 M1 tanks and 164 M2 Infantry Fighting Vehicles. Further down the coast, in Oman, are another 116 M1s and 58 M2s. Some 4,600 kilometers to the south, stored on transport ships, are another 116 M1s and 58 M2s, giving a total in the area of 580 M1 tanks and 290 M2 IFVs. That's enough equipment for ten tank and five mechanized infantry battalions.
