The Canadian military has issued a $37 million contract to Computing Devices of Canada to upgrade the acoustic signal processors on 16 of the CP-140 Aurora patrol planes (the Canadian version of the P-3 Orion). The program will not cover the other two Auroras or the three CP-140A Arcturus aircraft in Canadian service. The new VME Acoustic Signal Processor can handle 16 channels of data, and can be upgraded to 32 on demand and to 64 channels as new technology is developed in the future. The contract will also upgrade the ground stations at four Canadian bases to provide them with replay and analysis capabilities.--Stephen V Cole
