NORAD (North American Air Defense Command) had only radars that faced outside the country until 11 Sept; now it is linked to the FAA system so it has the capability to track aircraft inside the country. Each NORAD command post was set up to track 300 aircraft approaching the country, but new computers have given each post the capability to track 20,000 aircraft at once.--Stephen V Cole
