Forward Rapid Deployment- A new study by a think tank commissioned by the Pentagon calls for the troops in Europe to be restructured from parts of two divisions into three rapidly deployable brigades which would be ready to deploy to the Middle East (or anywhere in Europe) to meet a crisis. With rapid deployment forces stationed abroad, the study claims, the problems of moving troops to a distant theater of war could be reduced to manageable levels. The study suggests that as an interim, the US might rely on the troops in Europe to stop one of the two wars of the two-war-strategy, while the 18th Airborne Corps could stop another one. The heavy 3rd Corps could then deploy to either theater to decisively defeat the enemy, and then it (or reserve forces activated when the two wars started) could go to the second theater and win that war.--Stephen V Cole
