To help relieve its shortage of captains, the Army plans to keep some reserve lieutenants in service a few months longer so they can be considered by the November promotion board. As the required time in uniform for promotion to captain is being reduced from 42 months to 38, a second promotions board for captains will be held in May 2003.--Stephen V Cole
