Procurement: The Underground

Archives

July 28, 2008: Israeli intelligence estimates that Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas has smuggled four tons of explosives, fifty anti-tank missiles (type unspecified), hundreds of assault rifles, plus materials for building Kassam rockets, into Gaza, since June 19th (when the truce began). Most of this material has come in via tunnels under the Gaza-Egypt border. Hamas also tries to land material on the beach (in water-tight containers that are dump at sea, allowing the currents to take it to the beach). Least successful is material getting in via the official crossings, where Israeli inspectors carefully check for contraband. The estimates are derived from informants inside Gaza, as well as electronic surveillance.
