Boeing has registered its opposition to the idea of one Joint Strike Fighter being built on two assembly lines. The Pentagon wants to do this to keep at least two defense contractors in business. Critics note that the idea of dual contractors who compete for each year's order for equipment (with the low bidder getting a larger share) has been used many times but has never saved money.--Stephen V Cole
