British Aerospace and Saab (of Sweden) have formally given the Czech Republic an offer to provide 24 or 36 Swedish-built JAS-39 Gryphon fighters. The bid, at $1.8 billion, is somewhat less than the Czechs had expected to pay.--Stephen V Cole
