HMS Tireless (a British Trafalgar-class submarine) has received the first full load of the new Spearfish torpedoes from the main production order from Marconi. Some torpedoes from the development batch have been in service for some time. Spearfish torpedoes have exceeded 65 knots in trials. The Spearfish is a "heavy" (21-inch) wire-guided torpedo using a gas turbine-powered pumpjet.--Stephen V Cole
