SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. -- A C-5 Galaxy undergoes loading and unloading trials with the Army's prototype general purpose vehicle 8x8x8 truck. The exercise follows earlier tests of the vehicle on a C-130 Hercules from the 171st Airlift Squadron based here. The C-5 is from Dover Air Force Base, Del., with a mixed crew of active-duty and Reserve Airmen. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Clancey Pence)
The GPV 8x8x8 Truck can handle cargo loading/unloading of multiple aircraft by raising the truck bed or lowering the truck to match the height of the aircraft ramp. The GPV 8x8x8 Truck was designed to accomodate cargo loading/unloading operations from a C-130 aircraft to a C-7 aircraft in ramp height. This will allow for quick cargo operation loading/unloading with the GPV 8x8x8 truck in a battlefield where an aircraft can land, but a K-loader cannot maneuver due to rough terrains.
