Near the Pakistan border, a special forces team, returning from a meeting with local chiefs, were ambushed and an Army special forces sergeant was killed and a CIA agent wounded. The special forces team was investigating reports that U.S. bombs had killed civilians. 

The marine's Camp Rhino (56 kilometers south of Kandahar) has been closed and the troops moved to the U.S. base in the airport outside Kandahar.
