The search for former Taliban supreme leader Mohammed Omar continues, with the Afghan search parties looking in to the north of Kandahar and in a region to the southeast of the city.

Two U.S. marines were killed when their helicopter crashed while on a mission to resupply a special forces unit. This brings to 19 the number of Americans killed in the Afghanistan war. Only a third of the deaths have been as a result of combat. 

Five Taliban officials were arrested while trying to sneak into Kabul. The men had been hiding in the countryside since the Taliban fled Kabul two months ago.
