Archives

Acting on a tip from a local villager, a company of American paratroopers raided a mountain location in the northeast and found two arms caches. Weapons found included 107mm rockets and ammunition for mortars, recoilless rifles and machine guns. This mission was called Operation Desert Lion. The Special Forces has cultivated relationships with tribes all over Afghanistan, and this has resulted in a lot more tips. Sometimes rewards are given out, but often the tip comes from someone who wants the Americans or the Afghan army to go after an enemy who happens to be doing something illegal.
