US Special Forces found an arms cache in eastern Afghanistan, which included 700 mortar rounds. Three bandits were also captured, and it was thought that further investigation might show a Taliban connection. Much of the outlaw activity is done in the name of the Taliban but largely consists of theft, or attacks on another tribe. It's not all black and white out there.

A small bomb went off in a mosque in Spin Boldak near the Pakistan border. Three government officials were wounded.

More fighting between Tajik, Hazara and Uzbek warlords  for control of Mazar-i-Sharif has left at least three dead.
