A very active Taliban commander, Mullah Abdul Razak, was captured in southern Afghanistan. Razak was caught by Afghan troops, who recognized him from a wanted poster. Razak was a senior official with the old Taliban government, and has been responsible for the increased use of roadside bombs. 

In eastern Afghanistan, a Taliban ambush killed one American soldier, and wounded three others. At least seven  of the attackers were killed as well.
