The violence continues with more than a dozen militants, and several civilians and police killed as government forces went after militant groups that have refused the government amnesty offer.
With some of the smaller militant groups accepting the government's pardon offer, and 2,300 non-violent Islamic extremist prisoners freed in an amnesty, many of the militants refused to give up and continued the violence. Some ten or twelve people a week were now dying in the violence.
In early July, fifteen of the smaller militant groups agreed to turn in their arms in exchange for pardons. But the violence continued, with ten people killed in the first week of July.
