Rebels killed four civilians a hundred kilometers south of the capital. Despite an amnesty that got many rebels to make peace, and energetic police and military action, thousands of armed Islamic rebels continue to resist. The economy is in shambles and the dictatorship of the revolutionaries (who led the fight against the French in the 1960s) cling to power. Not a pretty picture.
