The rebel movement is in decline. Fewer young men seek to join the Islamic radical cause, mainly because most of the population is just tired of it. Many of the radicals have fled the country, which is why so many Algerians were found in Afghanistan when US troops rounded up al Qaeda members there last year. 

Army operations in the northeast left four rebels dead.
