Hungary announced that it authorized the transit of natural gas to Serbia. The transmission of gas was stopped during the Kosovo War.


The State Department warns that American citizens and facilities in the Balkans are being targeted by Islamic extremists and Serbian fanatics. The State Department also warns that local security services cannot be counted on to provide protection for Americans.--Stephen V Cole 

The Clinton Administration is pressuring Turkey to make concessions on the Cyprus issue in order to obtain large purchases of American weapons. The President has noted that Congress controls arms sales and military aid, and has warned that Turkey must show a willingness to make progress on diplomatic issues to win their approval.--Stephen V Cole
