Turkey agreed, with some reservations, to give US military forces access to Turkish bases for operations to overthrow Saddam Hussein. Turkey said the UN must approve the action and that US aircraft would be allowed to use the bases. As for large ground units, the official Turkish position is that public opposition makes that difficult. Turkey would allow small ground units (Special Operations Forces, presumably) to operate from Turkish territory. A northern ground front, however, would be a real plus for any US attack.
