The former Chief of Staff of the Yugoslav Army (JNA), Veljko Kadijevic, was indicted by Croatia for war crimes allegedly committed during the siege of Vukovar. That siege (pitting Serb attackers against Croat defenders) occurred in 1991. Seven of Kadijevics subordinates were also indicted. 1,100 Croat civilians were killed and over 4000 wounded during the siege.
