The US announced it had plans to build training facilities and ultimately military bases in eastern Europe. Romania and Bulgaria were specifically identified as good candidates by General James Jones, SACEUR. Several analysts have said the new bases would not be as big as current bases in Germany. These bases have support facilities for large numbers of military dependents. In all likelihood the eastern European bases would not.
