Tajikistan has placed its armed forces on alert after receiving reports that a force of 5,000 Taliban fighters were approach the Tajik border. This is not unusual, as the Taliban have been fighting Northern Alliance forces along the border for over a year. But in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, these Taliban movements take on more sinister meanings.
