  The government announced that troops had fought and destroyed a rebel unit. The action took place 500 kilometers north of the capital. Eight rebels and two soldiers died. Seven rebel vehicles were destroyed or captured (including six Toyota trucks equipped with 14.5mm machine-guns and a jeep with a 106m recoilless rifle. The government also denies earlier rebel claims of attacks in the area.
