 A legislator, Diego Turbay, was killed by gunmen, along with his mother and three bodyguards. The incident took place 670 kilometers south of the capital. Turbay was active in acting as a mediator with the government and rebels in trying to work out a peace deal. If the killers turn out to be FARC members, the peace talks could be seriously impeded. Many FARC members do not want peace, but the overthrow of the elected government. This year, violent deaths
