AUC, the militias formed by civilians to battle leftist rebels, are now split by their use of money from drug cartels. Like the leftist rebels, AUC has used business relationships to finance their operations. AUC currently has some 15,000 armed men on the payroll. But many AUC leaders have become more interested in making money than fighting rebels.
