Despite putting rebels on the defensive, the army is finding that it is actually fighting dozens of separate warlords. The attacks on the base camps of the FARC, ELN and AUC rebels revealed that the rebels in different parts of the country operated pretty independently of the central organization. The pressure on these local warlords showed that each was pretty much on his own, with the central organization providing, for the most part, public relations services.
