Congo Brazzaville: Capital Shelled to Dislodge Rebels

October 21, 2005: Fighting with Ninja rebels has been going on for over a week now. The Ninjas believe the government has not lived up to its promises, and has not provided the Ninjas with the money and other goodies they were promised. The government charges that the Ninjas have dragged their feet in disarming. At least four people have been killed, and dozens wounded, in the fighting. The army used artillery in the fighting, and that could be heard all over the capital.

October 14, 2005: After month's of peace, Ninja rebels, who had taken up residence in the capital, got into a series of firefights with police and soldiers. The violence began when police tried to evict the rebels from buildings they had taken over, illegally, for their own use.
