While the government of Myanmar (formerly Burma) is virtually a pariah state, it has been able to get open military aid from China and (on a much quieter level) has some military links with Pakistan. The Pakistanis have provided Myanmar with information about the operational reliability of Chinese tanks. Pakistan sold Myanmar 150 machineguns and tons of ammunition in 1990. Pakistan unloaded hundreds of weapons it had bought from China and Eastern Europe to Myanmar for cash, including mortars, rocket launchers, 106mm recoilless rifles, assault rifles, and ammunition. At least some of these weapons were literally stolen from US shipments en route to the Afghan rebels.--Stephen V Cole
