India is sending three more battalions to the troubled eastern borders near Bangladesh and Burma. Four of the many rebel groups in the area have formed an alliance to smuggle weapons into India. One of the rebel groups, the United Liberation Front of Assam, collapsed last month when 150 of its armed guerrillas surrendered to the Indian police.--Stephen V Cole
