India-Pakistan: June 12, 2002

Archives

India and Pakistani are discussing how to go about patrolling the Line of Control to decrease infiltration of Moslem radicals from the Pakistani side. Both sides have backed away from their talk of war. The cross border shelling has decreased, although at least three were killed on the Pakistani side today. The diplomatic pressure from around the world has been intense on both nations.

Pakistani troops, working with CIA and Special Forces, have arrested five Americans  suspected of working for al Qaeda. The men were arrested in tribal areas along the Afghan border, after local chiefs tipped off the army.

The infiltration across the Line of Control continues, indicating that the Pakistani army in Pakistani Kashmir was either not ordered to stop infiltration completely, or that some troops are either unwilling or unable to enforce the order.
